Luxor is a city on the east bank of the Nile in the south of Egypt. It is located on the site of ancient Thebes - the capital of the Egyptian pharaohs in the XVI – XI centuries BC, when they were at the peak of power. The city has preserved two huge architectural monuments - the magnificent Luxor temple and one and a half kilometers to the north of Karnak temple. On the west bank of the river are the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens, which became world famous thanks to the tombs of the Pharaohs. Luxor has a population of 500,000.
