Kotovsk is a city (since 1940) in Russia, the regional submission of the Tambov region. Located on the high right Bank of the Tsna river, 15 km from Tambov city, its industrial satellite. In 1914 began construction of the camp Gunpowder Factory and industrial buildings state-owned enterprises for defense purposes, by assent of Nicholas II. The following year hastily constructed and put into operation the largest in Tambov plant. Before the revolution of 1917 continued the construction of the plant. Was built narrow-gauge railway. Built only in the Tambov TPP. In 1918, the village became the centre of a rural district and received the name of Shock, and in 1919 — the name of the Red Action. The population of the village according to the census of 1939 was 16 986 people. Decree of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee on 9 February 1938, the village plant is detached industrial district of Tambov with the formation of the district Council. And on April 16, 1940 by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the village transformed into a town of Kotovsk in honor of the hero of the civil war — a brigade commander of G. I. Kotovsky. In 2016, the population of the city amounted to 30 thousand people.
