Nara is the capital of the Japan Prefecture of the same name in the south of the central part of Honshu Island. The city is famous for its temples and works of art belonging to the VIII century, when it was the capital of the country. In Nara Park, where deer walk freely, there is a Todai-ji temple, in a special wooden pavilion of which there is a 15 meter tall bronze Buddha statue called Daibutsu. In the eastern part of the park, the Kasuga-Taitsa Shinto Shrine, erected in 768, is located with more than three thousand lanterns. The population of the city is 360,000 people.
