Queenstown is a city on the shore of Lake Wakatipu on the South Island of New Zealand, surrounded by picturesque Southern Alps. It is known as the center of extreme sports. Suspension bridge across the Kavarau gorge is a popular place for bungee jumping, and the Shotover and Dart rivers are for jet-boat trips. In winter, tourists rest at the ski resorts of Remarkables and Coronet Peak. In the vicinity of Queenstown are vineyards and ancient mining towns. The population is 15 300 people.
