Taygetos - mountains in Greece, on the Peloponnese peninsula with a length of about 75 km. The highest point is Mount Profitis Ilias, 2407 m above sea level. Located in the south of the Peloponnese peninsula, on the border between the peripheral units of Laconia and Messinia. The central ridge is a barrier and watershed that divides the mountains into two parts - the eastern side with many streams, forests and small fertile plateaus, and the western side with bare slopes and dry ravines. In the south it ends with Mount Sangyas, separated by a pass at Areopolis, and Cape Tenaron.
