Aberdeen is a cosmopolitan port city in the northeast of Scotland. It is located at the confluence of the Dee and Don rivers into the North Sea, where several oil platforms have been built. Aberdeen is often referred to as the Granite City because of its many durable gray granite buildings. A typical example of local architecture is the majestic Victorian-style Marischal College, built in the 19th century. Now it sits on the city council. The population of the city is 215,000 people.
