The Japanese city of Takayama is located on the territory of the mountainous prefecture of Gifu. In the narrow streets of the historical part of the city - Sanmati-Suji - you can see wooden trading houses from the Edo period. There are also many small museums. The city is famous for its festival, whose history dates back to at least the middle of the XVII century. Celebrations are held in spring and autumn, arranging puppet performances and parades with decorated platforms. The population of the city is about 100,000 people.
