The territory of Ukraine is famous for its diversity of natural landscapes. The rolling plain of the Dnieper Upland, which lies between the middle reaches of the Dnieper (Dnieper) and the Southern Bukh (Pivdenny Bukh or Bo) rivers in western central Ukraine, is the largest mountainous area. It is dissected by many river valleys, ravines and ravines that are more than 1000 feet deep (300 meters). In the west, the Dnieper Upland is in contact with the solid Volyn-Podolsk Upland, which rises to 1,545 feet (471 meters) at the highest point, Mount Kamula. To the west of the Volyn-Podolsk Upland, in extreme western Ukraine, there are parallel Carpathians - some of the most picturesque places in the country stretch over 150 miles (240 km). The mountains range in height from 2,000 feet (600 meters) to about 6,500 feet (2,000 meters), rising to 6,762 feet (2,061 meters) on Mount Goverla, which is the highest point in the country. The northeastern and southeastern parts of Ukraine are occupied by low elevations, rarely reaching a height of 1000 feet (300 meters).
